Meiser

Status : Study

Place Général Meiser is located in the north-east of the Brussels Region, in the municipality of Schaerbeek. It is a major intersection at the junction of the Brussels middle ring road and the Chaussée de Louvain.

Simpler, safer traffic flows

The project involves transforming the large roundabout, which is currently not very "legible", by creating 2 separate intersections:

  • an intersection to manage the Reyers/Wahis boulevard axis
  • an intersection to manage traffic flows from rue Cambier, avenue Rogier, chaussée de Louvain and avenue Plasky.

The project also eliminates the diagonal crossing of the square by tram tracks. This will simplify the management of public transport stops. The aim is to give the Place Meiser the status of a real multimodal hub, linked to the nearby SNCB Meiser stop.

Pedestrians and cyclists will have dedicated, wider and safer spaces in which to circulate.

This new configuration will improve road safety and traffic flow for all modes of transport.

Etat actuel de la place Meiser A high-quality public space

The disappearance of the roundabout means there will be much more space to develop genuine green spaces and make the Place Meiser a pleasant, shady meeting place, with the planting of numerous trees in the open ground (around a hundred trees will brighten up the space) and the creation of flowerbeds and flowerbeds.

The development project incorporates 'sustainable' and 'integrated' rain water management principles. About one fifth of the space will be vegetalized.
